Barbara Steinberg, Maui Artist Barbara Steinberg's water colors are about light. Her still lifes record light's reflections. They depict flowers reflected on glass tops, boats reflected on water, and meditative studies of tropical flowers and scenes. "My work is a spiritual contemplation done in traditional techniques. I work directly from nature, in purity of color, focused on the light on the subject." Barbara's tropical vision is solidly based on Old Masters techniques. A California native, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California at Santa Cruz. For 2-1/2 years, in Santa Cruz and New York, Barbara worked under the tutelage of Miguel Argello of the Royal Academy of Madrid. She studied in England with Jennifer Carrington of the Royal Academy of London, and earned a degree in print making from the City and Guilds of London Art School. Barbara worked in Florence, Italy, with Pietro Annigoni, and in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with J.Childes and with Richard Lack. At her Water Color Studio on Maui, Barbara Steinberg offers art classes for young and old alike. As a watercolor painter and teacher, Barbara's vision as an artist is solidly based on what she observes in Nature. She paints tropical flowers and scenes of Hawaii. She loves to teach and is willing to pass on all she knows to her students with joy, enthusiasm and love she feels for the subject she paints.
If you live in Hawaii or are lucky enough to be taking a winter vacation, Barbara's original artwork and art prints and cards can be seen at the Kilohana Galleries, Lihue, Kauai (808-245-9352); and art prints and cards at the Lahaina Arts Society, Lahaina, Maui (808-879-0025). |
