The Fine Art of, Yu, Jun-chuan I first had the privilege of meeting Yu, Jun-chuan through a friend of his son's who contacted me about showing Yu, Jun-chuan's work, as he had never attempted to sell any of his art in the US. Through an interpreter, we became friends and communicated on, as regular basis as he could through emails for a couple of years. As sometimes happens, we lost contact with each other. I am now searching to find news of my friend, and perhaps someone will see this who can help us re-unite our friendship. Born in 1941, Yu, Jun-chuan became a member of the China Academy School in 1958. He specialized in designing for light industrial production after his graduation. In 1979 he became the assistant arts and crafts designer and later in 1981, the senior arts and crafts designer. Many of his students entered the China Academy and twice he was invited to teach at the Academy. Yu, Jun-chuan often took the place of the main designer for light industrial exhibitions in the east part of China. As a successful portrait painter, his group portraits for scientists have won awards. To his credits, Yu, Jun-chuan has painted many decorative frescoes for the "China Tea Museum", "Zhejiang Agriculture Bank", and the "Suzhou Garden Museum" to name just a few. Since retiring in 1996, Yu, Jun-chuan specializes in oil paintings and travels widely throughout China visiting famous mountains and scenic sites to gather materials for his creations. He creates a poetic mood in his landscapes and the calm and quiet of the countryside are also reflected in his works. Yu, Jun-chuan seldom uses brushes for his creation, but prefers a palette knife to put on the rough colors, filling the canvas with color and then making them smooth. After it is dry, he uses his fingers to finish the paintings. His works are now collected in the book of "World Artists". |
